Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe hand Fulham their first win of the season against Leicester City
Fulham claimed their first Premier League victory of the season by beating Leicester City 2-1 at home. Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring, before Alex Iwobi delivered the decisive goal in the second half.
Fulham edge out Leicester City in hard-fought win
Craven Cottage was the setting on Saturday for a thrilling Premier League encounter in which Fulham ultimately came out on top against Leicester City, winning 2-1. It was a hard-earned victory that earned the London club their first three points of the season.
Smith Rowe puts Fulham ahead early
Fulham seized the initiative from the off. In the 18th minute, Emile Smith Rowe found the net after an assist from Adama Traoré. With that early goal, the hosts sent a clear message that they were determined to take all three points.
Faes restores parity for Leicester City
Leicester City were not about to roll over, however. In the 38th minute, Wout Faes drew the visitors level, capitalising on an assist from Facundo Buonanotte. With the score at 1-1 at the break, everything was still to play for.
Iwobi settles the contest in the second half
The difference was made in the 70th minute, when Alex Iwobi had the Fulham faithful celebrating once more. Assisted by Antonee Robinson, the Nigerian international fired his side into a 2-1 lead — a scoreline that would not change. Iwobi played a decisive role in what proved to be Fulham's first win of the season.
Standings and looking ahead
The victory leaves Fulham in a solid position at the start of the Premier League season. Leicester City, on the other hand, must regroup: the Foxes have managed just one point from their opening two fixtures. Upcoming matches will give both sides the opportunity to course-correct. Fulham face Ipswich Town on 31 August, West Ham United on 14 September, and host Newcastle United on 21 September. Leicester City travel to Aston Villa on 31 August, take on Crystal Palace on 14 September, and welcome Everton to their stadium on 21 September.
