Arsenal strong favourites to sign Christos Tzolis: 'They hold all the cards'
Arsenal are the most concrete suitors for Christos Tzolis, Greece's finest footballer. Greek journalist Dimitris Manakos rates the London club's chances considerably higher than many in Belgium currently realise, arguing that the Club Brugge forward is an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta's style of play.
Arsenal have been tracking Tzolis for some time
Christos Tzolis was directly involved in fifty goals for Club Brugge last season. Those remarkable numbers have not gone unnoticed at Arsenal. Greek journalist Dimitris Manakos confirms that the London club are currently showing the strongest interest of all the clubs monitoring the forward. 'Arsenal are without doubt the club that has attracted the most attention over the past few weeks. Based on the information available, they are showing the greatest interest right now. I would be surprised if they were the only top club keeping a close eye on Tzolis,' Manakos said.
More concrete than the rest
Other English clubs had previously shown interest in the Greek international. Crystal Palace even submitted a substantial bid last season, which Club Brugge rejected. Yet no trail is currently as concrete as Arsenal's, Manakos stresses. 'Arsenal have been following Tzolis for a long time and have enormous admiration for what he has shown over the past twelve months. I think Arsenal have a better chance than many people in Belgium realise right now. If Arsenal genuinely push ahead, I believe they hold all the cards to get this deal done.'
The most expensive transfer ever out of Belgian football
Tzolis is valued at £35 million, which would make him the most expensive player ever sold from Belgian football. Arsenal appear willing to put that figure on the table. The forward himself is keen to return to England, a country where he has played before. During the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons he wore the Norwich City shirt, managing just three goals and two assists in thirty appearances. That disappointing spell now feels like a distant memory.
Tzolis fits Arteta's philosophy
Manakos also sees football reasons why a move to Arsenal makes sense. 'Mikel Arteta likes intelligent, versatile attackers, and Tzolis has already proven that he can adapt tactically at the highest level. I think Arsenal suit him better than many people think.' The journalist does stress, however, that playing time and development must be guaranteed. 'After everything he achieved last season — winning trophies, performing in Europe, establishing himself as one of the best players in the league — I'm not sure he has much left to prove in Belgium. This could be the right summer for a top-level move.'
