Arsenal keep clean sheet in convincing win at Villa Park against Aston Villa
Arsenal have reinforced their strong start to the season with a 2-0 victory away at Aston Villa in the Premier League. Goals from Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey earned the Gunners their second win in two matches, while Aston Villa have just three points after two matchdays.
Trossard and Partey settle the contest in the second half
At Villa Park, the deadlock held for a long time. The first half produced no goals, but in the second period Arsenal took matters into their own hands. In the 67th minute it was Leandro Trossard who broke the deadlock and put Arsenal ahead. Ten minutes later, Thomas Partey made it 2-0 with an assist from Bukayo Saka. That proved enough to settle the match, with Arsenal also keeping a clean sheet in the process.
Emery acknowledges Arsenal's quality
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery could only show his respect for the opposition afterwards. 'You have to accept Arsenal; they are more experienced and more mature,' said Emery. 'They are strong; over the past two years they have been very competitive in the Premier League, contenders for the top four and even for the title. Today was a test for us to understand who we are,' he added. For Emery, it was his first home defeat against Arsenal following a double victory over the Gunners last season.
Upcoming Premier League fixtures
Aston Villa continue their campaign with an away match against Leicester City on 31 August, followed by a home fixture on 14 September and a home clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on 21 September. Arsenal host Brighton & Hove Albion on 31 August before travelling to Tottenham Hotspur on 15 September and Manchester City on 22 September.
