Atlético Madrid beat Girona 3-0 to claim first win of the season

Atlético Madrid secured a convincing La Liga victory over Girona at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano. Goals from Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Llorente and Koke sealed a 3-0 win. The result gives Atlético four points from their opening two matches, while Girona remain on one point after two games.

Griezmann breaks the deadlock just before half-time

For long stretches it looked as though the first half would end goalless, but Antoine Griezmann ended the stalemate in the 39th minute. The Frenchman broke the deadlock for the hosts and handed Atlético Madrid a deserved lead at the interval.

Llorente doubles the advantage straight after the break

Atlético struck again less than a minute after the restart. Marcos Llorente made it 2-0, effectively ending Girona's hopes of a comeback almost immediately. The Madrilenians dominated the contest from start to finish, never allowing their visitors a foothold in the game.

Koke puts the finishing touch in the final minute

The scoring was rounded off in the 90th minute when Koke netted the third goal, assisted by Marcos Llorente, to complete a comprehensive victory. Atlético also kept a clean sheet, further underlining an impressive collective performance.
