Brighton & Hove Albion got their Premier League season off to a flying start, defeating Everton 3-0 away at Goodison Park. Goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra handed new head coach Fabian Hürzeler a dream debut at the helm of Brighton.

It was the visitors who made the earliest impact. After 25 minutes, Kaoru Mitoma broke the deadlock, with the Japanese attacker capitalising on an assist from Yankuba Minteh to give Brighton & Hove Albion a deserved 1-0 lead. Everton failed to respond adequately and were unable to create any meaningful chances of their own.
Welbeck doubles the lead as Young sees red
Brighton pushed further ahead after the break. In the 56th minute, Danny Welbeck made it 2-0 with a fine finish, set up by midfielder Mats Wieffer. The evening turned even darker for Everton when Ashley Young was shown a red card in the 66th minute. Down to ten men, the hosts had no answer to a relentless Brighton side.
Adingra wraps up a 3-0 victory
Brighton & Hove Albion completed the job in the closing stages. Simon Adingra sealed the 3-0 win in the 86th minute, assisted by none other than Welbeck, who left his mark on both the second and third goals of the evening. Everton went without a goal throughout and were unable to lay a glove on a sharp, well-organised Brighton.
Hürzeler keeps his feet on the ground after successful debut
Speaking after the match, Fabian Hürzeler was notably measured in his reaction to a successful start as Brighton & Hove Albion head coach. 'I'm very happy — it's a good start, but nothing more than that. It's important to stay humble after this game,' the coach said. He was also keen to credit his squad: 'It's a great feeling, but I don't want to make it about myself. The players deserved this. They've worked hard in pre-season and I'm very proud of them.'
What's next for both clubs
Brighton & Hove Albion continue their Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Manchester United on 24 August, followed by an away trip to Arsenal on 31 August and a home match against Ipswich Town on 14 September. Everton face a tough run of fixtures: they travel to Tottenham Hotspur on 24 August, host a home game on 31 August, and visit Aston Villa on 14 September.
