Crystal Palace host West Ham United in London derby at Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace and West Ham United face off on Saturday 24 August in a London Premier League derby at Selhurst Park. Kick-off is at 15:00 (GMT+1). Both clubs opened the new season with a 2-1 defeat and are therefore desperate to get their first points on the board.
Crystal Palace seek first win after disappointing start
Crystal Palace began their Premier League campaign with a frustrating 2-1 home defeat against Brentford. A superb curling left-footed strike from Bryan Mbeumo put the visitors ahead after 29 minutes. Crystal Palace appeared to level through an Ethan Pinnock own goal in the 57th minute, but Yoane Wissa struck the decisive 2-1 in the 76th minute, capitalising on an error by goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Manager Oliver Glasner was unhappy about Eze's disallowed goal, but praised his side's overall performance. At Selhurst Park he is now looking to extend an impressive home run: Crystal Palace have won their last four Premier League home matches, and victory on Saturday would bring the tally to five consecutive home wins. Palace have also come out on top in each of their last two home fixtures against West Ham. Glasner is expected to deploy his familiar 3-4-2-1 system, with Jean-Philippe Mateta leading the line. Ivan Toney, who has been linked with an imminent transfer, was absent for the opener against Brentford and is not expected to feature on Saturday either.
West Ham United searching for first points under Lopetegui
West Ham United also endured a difficult start to the season. In their opening fixture against Aston Villa, the side looked set to claim a point after Lucas Paquetá converted a penalty in the 37th minute, but substitute Jhon Durán — the 20-year-old Colombian whom West Ham had previously attempted to sign — dealt the Hammers a 2-1 defeat in the 79th minute. For manager Julen Lopetegui it was an immediately painful baptism of fire. The Spaniard will be determined to give his travelling supporters a first victory on Saturday. He faces a tough task, however, as West Ham have lost their last three Premier League away matches against London opponents. The statistics do offer some encouragement, though: across the last four meetings between these sides, no fewer than 24 goals were scored — 13 for Crystal Palace and 11 for West Ham. Lopetegui is targeting a 4-1-4-1 formation, with new signing Niclas Füllkrug leading the attack. The German already made his debut against Aston Villa. Referee Rob Jones will take charge of the match, with Paul Tierney serving as VAR official.
