Erling Haaland scores hat-trick for Manchester City against Ipswich Town: 4-1
Erling Haaland was the standout performer for Manchester City in their Premier League clash against Ipswich Town. The Norwegian striker netted a hat-trick to lead his side to a 4-1 victory. Kevin De Bruyne completed the City scoring, while Sammie Szmodics got on the scoresheet for the visiting side from Ipswich.
Ipswich Town start brightly, but Haaland makes the difference
It was Ipswich Town who set the early tempo. After seven minutes, Sammie Szmodics put the Premier League newcomers in front, assisted by Benjamin Johnson: 0-1. The celebrations were short-lived, however. Manchester City responded swiftly, with Erling Haaland restoring order by converting a penalty in the twelfth minute: 1-1.
De Bruyne and Haaland dominate the remainder of the first half
Manchester City then took complete control. Just two minutes after the equaliser, Kevin De Bruyne put the hosts ahead, assisted by Sávio. Two minutes later, Erling Haaland doubled the lead with his second goal of the evening, this time set up by De Bruyne himself: 3-1. In the closing stages, the Norwegian striker completed his hat-trick to make it a fourth goal for City and seal the final score at 4-1.
Haaland's tenth hat-trick in Manchester City colours
It was a milestone for the striker: his tenth hat-trick in a Manchester City shirt. With six points from two matches, manager Pep Guardiola's side are in excellent shape at the start of the season. Ipswich Town, meanwhile, remain pointless after two games.
Upcoming Premier League fixtures
Manchester City continue their campaign with an away trip to West Ham United on 31 August, followed by home fixtures against a yet-to-be-confirmed opponent on 14 September and Arsenal on 22 September. Ipswich Town host Fulham on 31 August before travelling to Brighton & Hove Albion on 14 September and Southampton on 21 September.
