FC Augsburg and Werder Bremen share the spoils in thrilling Bundesliga clash
FC Augsburg and Werder Bremen could not be separated in their Bundesliga encounter. An entertaining match ended 2-2, with Felix Agu and Justin Njinmah on the scoresheet for Bremen, while Elvis Rexhbecaj and Samuel Essende netted for Augsburg.
Bremen strike early, but Augsburg hit back quickly
The visitors from Bremen made a flying start. After just twelve minutes, Felix Agu converted to open the scoring, with Mitchell Weiser providing the assist. It was the perfect beginning for Werder Bremen, but the hosts refused to be rattled. Only four minutes later, FC Augsburg drew level: Elvis Rexhbecaj got on the scoresheet to make it 1-1, assisted by Phillip Tietz.
Augsburg take the lead through Essende
The momentum shifted towards the Augsburg side, who also managed to put themselves ahead before the break. In the 35th minute, Samuel Essende found the net after a pass from Tim Breithaupt to make it 2-1. FC Augsburg headed into the dressing room with the lead and appeared to be on course for all three points.
Njinmah rescues a point for Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen refused to give up, however. In the 58th minute, Justin Njinmah restored parity, once again assisted by Mitchell Weiser, who was thereby credited with his second attacking contribution of the evening. The score remained at 2-2, meaning both sides ultimately went home with a single point.
Looking ahead: busy schedule for both clubs
FC Augsburg have fixtures against Heidenheim (away, 1 September), FC Augsburg (home, 15 September) and FSV Mainz 05 (home, 20 September) in the coming weeks. Werder Bremen host Borussia Dortmund on 31 August, travel to FSV Mainz 05 on 15 September, and welcome FC Bayern München at home on 21 September.
