FC Groningen beat RKC Waalwijk 2-1 in Eredivisie clash at Mandemakers Stadion

FC Groningen claimed a 2-1 Eredivisie victory away at RKC Waalwijk on Saturday. At the Mandemakers Stadion, Jörg Schreuders opened the scoring early before Thom van Bergen doubled the lead. A late consolation goal from Richard van der Venne was too little, too late for RKC Waalwijk.
Groningen strike early through Schreuders
FC Groningen took control of the match from the outset. After just eleven minutes, Jörg Schreuders broke the deadlock, with Leandro Bacuna providing the assist. RKC Waalwijk, playing in front of their own supporters in Waalwijk, visibly struggled to get a grip on the game and found themselves chasing it from an early stage.
Van Bergen makes it 2-0 with second Bacuna assist
In the 77th minute, the match appeared all but over. Thom van Bergen doubled FC Groningen's advantage, once again with an assist from Leandro Bacuna. The Groningen midfielder was thus involved in both of his side's goals, playing a decisive role in securing the victory.
Late goal and red card for Zawada
Deep into stoppage time, Richard van der Venne pulled one back for RKC Waalwijk to make it 2-1, giving the final scoreline a slightly less painful look for the hosts. Any hope of a comeback, however, was never a realistic prospect. The evening turned even more sour for RKC Waalwijk when Oskar Zawada was shown a red card in the 90th minute.
