Fortuna Sittard delivered an impressive performance away at Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie. The Limburg side returned from Deventer with a 2-0 win, thanks to goals from Alen Halilovic and Makan Aiko, while keeping a clean sheet.
Dominant away win for Fortuna Sittard in Deventer
At De Adelaarshorst in Deventer, Fortuna Sittard defeated Go Ahead Eagles 0-2 in the Eredivisie. The visitors put in a composed and mature display, keeping the hosts completely off the scoresheet while striking twice themselves in the second half.
Halilovic opens the scoring, Aiko seals the deal
The first half remained goalless, but shortly after the restart Fortuna Sittard seized the initiative. In the 57th minute, Alen Halilovic broke the deadlock with an assist from Kristoffer Peterson. The lead did not stay at one goal for long: in the 73rd minute, Makan Aiko doubled the advantage, with Mitchell Dijks providing the assist. That proved to be the final nail in Go Ahead Eagles' coffin.
Looking ahead: busy fixture schedule for both clubs
Go Ahead Eagles continue their campaign with home fixtures against Willem II on 18 August and RKC Waalwijk on 25 August, followed by an away trip to PSV on 1 September. Fortuna Sittard face Almere City on 16 August, then take on Ajax on 25 August before hosting NEC on 31 August.
