Genoa and Inter share the spoils after spectacular 2-2 draw in Serie A

Genoa and Inter Milano could not be separated in Serie A. In a gripping contest, the match ended 2-2, with both sides responding each time they fell behind. Marcus Thuram was the standout performer for Inter with a brace, while Genoa kept themselves in it through Alessandro Vogliacco and Junior Messias.

Vogliacco puts Genoa ahead early

It was Genoa who struck first at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. After twenty minutes of play, defender Alessandro Vogliacco headed or shot home to give his side a deserved 1-0 lead. The hosts looked set to claim a precious three points against the reigning champions.

Thuram restores parity for Inter

Inter, however, refused to be rattled. After half an hour, Marcus Thuram drew the visitors level. The French striker converted an assist from midfielder Nicolò Barella to make it 1-1. The Nerazzurri's response was resolute and clinical.

Thuram strikes again, but Messias earns Genoa a point

With eight minutes remaining, Inter appeared to have settled the contest in their favour. Once again it was Thuram who delivered, this time finishing off an assist from Davide Frattesi to make it 1-2. Genoa, however, refused to surrender. Deep into stoppage time, Junior Messias headed or bundled the ball home to level at 2-2. A bitter blow for Inter, and a thoroughly deserved point for Genoa.

Outlook: busy schedule ahead for both clubs

Both sides face a packed fixture list in the coming weeks. Genoa take on Monza on 24 August, face Hellas Verona on 1 September, and host AS Roma on 15 September. Inter travel to Lecce on 24 August, meet Atalanta on 30 August, and play an away fixture at Monza on 15 September.
