Hellas Verona humiliates Napoli 3-0: Conte's debut turns into a nightmare
Hellas Verona claimed an impressive 3-0 Serie A victory over Napoli at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. Daniel Mosquera, making his debut for Verona, scored a brace and was the standout performer of the evening. Scoreless first half, devastating second half
The opening 45 minutes produced no goals, but after the break the match turned into an outright nightmare for Napoli. Less than a minute after the restart, Dailon Rocha Livramento broke the deadlock for Hellas Verona, assisted by Darko Lazović. Napoli had no answer as the hosts maintained a firm grip on proceedings.
Mosquera shines on his debut
In the 75th minute, Colombian striker Daniel Mosquera — playing his very first match in a Hellas Verona shirt — made it 2-0 with an assist from Ondrej Duda. Deep into stoppage time, in the 90th minute, Mosquera completed his personal brace with another assist from Darko Lazović. The new signing left his mark on a dominant home victory.
Conte apologises after dismal display
For Antonio Conte, who marked this match as his Serie A debut as Napoli manager, it was an afternoon to forget quickly. Speaking afterwards, the coach pulled no punches. He admitted his side had completely fallen apart and stated that an apology to the passionate Napoli supporters was fully warranted. Conte took full responsibility, describing the second half as utterly unacceptable and stressing that hard work was needed across the board.
Looking ahead: busy schedules for both clubs
Hellas Verona continue their Serie A campaign with a home fixture against Juventus on 26 August, followed by away trips to Genoa on 1 September and Lazio on 15 September. Napoli host Bologna on 25 August and Parma on 31 August, before Conte's side travel to Cagliari on 15 September.
