Holstein Kiel has signed Georgian striker Giorgi Kvilitaia. The 32-year-old forward joins from French side FC Metz and has penned a contract with the second-tier club until at least 2027.

Holstein Kiel have made a striking addition to their squad on the transfer market: 32-year-old Georgian striker Giorgi Kvilitaia is switching from French club FC Metz to the northern German side. The forward has signed a contract running until at least 2027, marking his first venture into German football.
Nearly 400 professional matches and 44 caps to his name
Kvilitaia arrives at Holstein Kiel with an impressive résumé. The 1.93-metre-tall striker boasts nearly 400 professional appearances across domestic and international competitions. His career has taken him to KAA Gent in Belgium, APOEL Nikosia and Aris Limassol in Cyprus, SK Rapid in Austria and Dinamo Tbilisi in Georgia. For Georgia's national team, he earned 44 caps and scored seven goals. As recently as early June, he featured in two friendly internationals against Romania and Bahrain.
Rebbe praises the profile: 'Enormous presence in the box'
Olaf Rebbe, Holstein Kiel's sporting director, is clearly enthusiastic about the new arrival. According to Rebbe, the club has secured a highly experienced, classic target striker who stands out for his commanding presence in the penalty area, physical robustness and strong heading ability. Rebbe also highlighted the leadership qualities the Georgian brings to the table.
Kvilitaia sees his Austrian spell as an advantage
The striker himself looks forward eagerly to his first German adventure. He points to his time at SK Rapid in Austria as beneficial for his integration, both in terms of language and culture. Kvilitaia intends to leverage his experience, take on responsibility and help the side with goals, commitment and leadership.
Season kicks off on August 7
For Kvilitaia and his new teammates, the campaign begins in roughly six weeks' time. The 2. Bundesliga gets underway in the weekend of August 7 to 9. The full fixture list will be released by the DFL on July 2.
