Ibrahim Sadiq gives AZ victory at Almere City despite early Dekker red card

AZ have claimed a 1-0 Eredivisie win away at Almere City. Ibrahim Sadiq was the match-winner in the fourth minute, while both sides were reduced to ten men early on following red cards.

Early goal and chaos in the opening phase

AZ made a blistering start to their away fixture at Almere City. Ibrahim Sadiq was on the scoresheet as early as the fourth minute, netting the only goal of the evening to hand his side an immediate lead. However, the joy was short-lived for the visitors: AZ midfielder Maxim Dekker was shown a red card in the eighteenth minute, leaving his team a man down.

Almere City also reduced to ten men

Almere City, however, failed to make the most of their numerical advantage. In the 34th minute, Baptiste Guillaume was also dismissed on the home side, leaving both teams to play out the remainder of the game with ten men apiece. Despite the chaotic circumstances, the scoreline remained unchanged at 1-0 to AZ. In the 79th minute, a third red card of the evening followed — this time for Almere City's Visus — forcing the hosts to see out the closing stages with just nine men.

Upcoming Eredivisie fixtures

Almere City's schedule over the coming weeks includes an away trip to Fortuna Sittard on 16 August, a home fixture on 24 August, and a home clash with FC Groningen on 31 August. AZ, meanwhile, host NEC on 17 August, travel to FC Groningen on 25 August, and round off the month with an away match at RKC Waalwijk on 30 August.
