It took until the 80th minute for the only goal of the game to arrive. Takefusa Kubo put Real Sociedad ahead thanks to an assist from Hamari Traoré, and that proved to be the sole strike of the evening. With that late goal, the Japanese forward earned his side three precious points in La Liga.
First win for Real Sociedad, Espanyol still without a point
The 0-1 victory away at Espanyol marks Real Sociedad's first three points of the season. Espanyol find themselves in a far worse position after two matchdays: the Catalan club have now suffered a second consecutive defeat and are yet to get off the mark.
Outlook: tough schedule ahead for both clubs
Both sides face a demanding run of fixtures in the coming weeks.
