Las Palmas suffer narrow 2-1 defeat to Leganés in hard-fought La Liga clash
Leganés have claimed their first win of the La Liga season by beating Las Palmas 2-1 at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque. The three points move Leganés onto four points, while Las Palmas are left with just one point after two matchdays.
Leganés break the deadlock in the second half
On a demanding Sunday evening at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque, Las Palmas were made to concede defeat by Leganés. After a goalless first half, it took until the 71st minute for the deadlock to be broken. Juan Cruz opened the scoring for the hosts, assisted by Yvan Neyou Noupa.
Franquesa doubles the lead, Sandro Ramírez too late
With five minutes remaining, the match appeared to be settled when Enric Franquesa extended the advantage to 2-0, this time with the help of Óscar Rodríguez. Las Palmas refused to give up, however. In stoppage time, Sandro Ramírez pulled one back to make it 2-1, assisted by Oli McBurnie, but an equaliser proved beyond them.
Standings and outlook
The victory lifts Leganés to four points after two matches, with the side finally securing their first win of the season. Las Palmas are left with just one point from two games. In the coming rounds, Leganés face Real Valladolid on 28 August, Mallorca on 31 August, and an away trip to Real Betis on 15 September. Las Palmas have an even tougher schedule ahead: Real Madrid on 29 August, Deportivo Alavés on 1 September, and a home fixture against Athletic Club on 15 September.
