Leon Dajaku signs with Hansa Rostock: from Bayern Munich prospect for €1.5 million to free transfer to the third tier
Leon Dajaku, once acquired by Bayern Munich for €1.5 million, has signed a contract with Hansa Rostock. The 25-year-old winger joined on a free transfer after dropping out of the third division with SSV Ulm and is determined to finally deliver on his early promise at the Kogge.
Available for free after Ulm's relegation
Hansa Rostock has secured Leon Dajaku on a free transfer. The winger was relegated from the third division with SSV Ulm, and when his contract expired, he became available without compensation. Rostock moved quickly to snap him up. Despite Ulm's disastrous season, Dajaku was among the club's better performers. He contributed fifteen goals and assists, missed just one match due to a yellow-card suspension, and suffered three muscular injuries in the final stages of the campaign. Statistically speaking, it was his most productive senior season to date.
A career of high expectations, modest results
Dajaku first came into prominence during the 2019/20 season, when he won the third-division championship with Bayern Munich's reserve team. The Bavarian club had previously signed him from VfB Stuttgart for €1.5 million. Two years later, Union Berlin paid the same €1.5 million for the winger. However, the major breakthrough never materialised. Neither at Union Berlin, nor at Sunderland in the English third division, nor at Swiss side St. Gallen or Croatian club Hadjuk Split could Dajaku establish himself at the highest level.
Dajaku chose Hansa deliberately
The winger explained his reasoning for joining Hansa Rostock: "It was important for me to find a club that is ambitious, has clear objectives, and where I can take on responsibility immediately. In the direct matches against Bayern II in the third division and against Ulm last season, I saw what strength lies within this club." Sports director Amir Shapourzadeh (43) is delighted with the 25-year-old's arrival: "With Leon, we're bringing in an offensively versatile player who can operate on both flanks and is also deployable as an attacking midfielder. Despite his young age, he brings considerable experience with him. We're very pleased that he chose Hansa despite numerous other offers." Dajaku will wear number 43 for the Kogge, the same number he wore at Ulm.
