Mallorca host Sevilla in search of first win of the season
Mallorca and Sevilla both head into Tuesday's clash without a win in La Liga as they face each other on August 27 at 18:30 (GMT+1) at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. Both sides are eager to claim their first three points of the campaign after disappointing opening weekends.
Mallorca seek to bounce back after painful away defeat
The Pirates made a promising start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid, but that early optimism was quickly dampened. Last Saturday, Mallorca fell to a 1-0 defeat at Osasuna in El Sadar, courtesy of a Rubén García Santos goal in the 55th minute. After two matchdays, their record reads zero wins, one draw and one defeat. Their home form does offer some encouragement: in their last ten home matches, Mallorca have lost just four, winning four and drawing two. The head-to-head record, however, paints a less flattering picture. Across eight meetings, Mallorca have beaten Sevilla just once, with two draws and five defeats. A win on Tuesday would make history: it would be only the third time in La Liga history that Mallorca have recorded back-to-back home victories over Sevilla, and the first time since 1999 that they have beaten the visitors at home in consecutive fixtures. Their last home win against Sevilla dates back to December 2023. Coach Jagoba Arrasate is expected to field a 4-3-3 formation with Vedat Muriqi, Dani Rodríguez and Takuma Asano leading the attack. Javi Llabrés will not be available for this midweek fixture.
Sevilla look for first win under García Pimienta
Sevilla also arrive in Mallorca with nothing to show for their opening two matchdays. The Andalusian club suffered a 2-1 defeat to Villarreal on Friday evening, after Ayoze Pérez struck the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time. With one draw and one defeat, Sevilla sit fourteenth in La Liga — a slow start by their own standards. There is, however, one statistic that may give the visitors confidence: in their last fifteen Tuesday fixtures, Sevilla have lost just once, winning nine and drawing five. Their away record at Mallorca is less impressive, though, with two wins, one draw and two defeats in their last five visits to the Pirates. Coach García Pimienta struck a cautious note at his pre-match press conference: 'We need to focus on Mallorca now. We'll have to defend well and be clinical in front of goal, because we are creating chances.' The 50-year-old manager is also expected to stick with his favoured 4-3-3 setup, with Dodi Lukebakio, Isaac Romero and Lucas Ocampos forming the attacking trio. Suso appears to be the only absentee for Sevilla.
