Mounir El Allouchi bids farewell to Willem II: 'I look back on this period with pride'
Mounir El Allouchi is leaving Willem II after one season. The 31-year-old midfielder announced his departure on Wednesday via Instagram, where he also thanked the fans for the support he received during an extremely difficult period. Earlier this month, El Allouchi had to bury his baby daughter.
Emotional words for the supporters
In his farewell message, El Allouchi addresses the Willem II supporters in particular, who stood by him during the darkest period of his life. "Especially towards the end of the year, you gave me extra support and appreciation, and I want to sincerely thank you for that. I appreciate it enormously. I look back on this period with pride and wish everyone at the club the very best for the future," the midfielder writes.
Honoured at the promotion celebrations
El Allouchi's departure coincides with a landmark moment for the Tilburg club: Willem II earned promotion to the Eredivisie on Saturday. At the title celebrations on Monday, the midfielder had already reflected on the support he had received. Manager John Stegeman used that moment to pay special tribute to his player. "We all know you have been going through an incredibly hard time. Mounir, this one is for you," said the head coach, who personally honoured him in front of the supporters.
