PSV open title defence against Fortuna Sittard, Ajax-PSV clash arrives in matchweek five
Reigning champions PSV kick off the 2026/27 Eredivisie season with a home fixture against Fortuna Sittard, while Feyenoord launch their campaign with the Rotterdam derby away at Sparta Rotterdam. The first top-of-the-table showdown between Ajax and PSV is scheduled for Saturday 5 September, with the first Klassieker following on Sunday 29 November at De Kuip.
PSV face Fortuna in opening weekend
The 2026/27 Eredivisie season gets under way on Friday evening, 7 August, with the match between newly promoted SC Cambuur and Excelsior. A day later, on Saturday 8 August, PSV Eindhoven take centre stage. The reigning champions will face Fortuna Sittard in the opening round — a fixture confirmed on Tuesday when the first batch of fixtures was announced. The remaining matchweek one games will be released on Wednesday.
Feyenoord open with Rotterdam derby
Feyenoord, who finished second last season to secure Champions League football, begin the new campaign on Sunday 9 August at 12:15 with an away trip to city rivals Sparta Rotterdam. NEC, currently involved in the Champions League qualifying rounds, open their season a day earlier: Saturday evening, 8 August at 16:30, against Telstar.
Ajax travel to PEC Zwolle, FC Twente head to Heerenveen
Ajax Amsterdam also start on Sunday 9 August, with an away fixture at PEC Zwolle (14:30). FC Twente make the trip to sc Heerenveen on the same day, where kick-off is scheduled for 16:45.
First top-of-the-table clash and Klassieker pencilled in early
Although the season has yet to begin, two marquee fixtures are already in the diary. On Saturday 5 September, in matchweek five, Ajax and PSV will meet in what promises to be the first major showdown of the campaign. The first Klassieker between Feyenoord and Ajax is set for Sunday 29 November, when De Kuip provides the backdrop for the traditional meeting between the two powerhouses.
