PSV sell Saibari to Bayern München for club-record €55 million
Ismael Saibari is leaving PSV for Bayern München in the most expensive outgoing transfer in the Eindhoven club's history. PSV shatters own transfer record with Saibari sale
PSV have completed the most expensive outgoing transfer in their history. Ismael Saibari is heading to Bayern München for €55 million, sources have confirmed to NOS. The 25-year-old Moroccan midfielder has put pen to paper on a contract that runs until the summer of 2031. The fee leaves PSV's previous record transfers well in the shade. Hirving Lozano fetched €50 million when he moved to Napoli in 2019, Cody Gakpo brought in €42 million upon his move to Liverpool in January 2023, while Ibrahim Sangaré and Malik Tillman each generated €35 million — at Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.
From €200,000 out of Genk to Eredivisie Player of the Year
Saibari's rise began in the youth academy of Belgian side KRC Genk, from where PSV snapped him up in 2020 for just €200,000. That same year he made his debut for PSV's first team. Under head coach Peter Bosz, the midfielder developed into one of the undisputed key players at the Eindhoven club, with whom he won three Eredivisie titles. The crowning moment of his time at PSV came in the form of individual recognition, being named the Eredivisie's best player last season.
Nineteen goals and a strike against Bayern themselves
Last season Saibari featured in 37 matches for PSV, contributing nineteen goals and nine assists across all competitions. A particularly notable detail: one of those goals came against his future employers. In the Champions League he found the net against Bayern München — a feat that in all likelihood only served to intensify interest from Bavaria.
Starring role at the World Cup: opening goal against Brazil
The transfer announcement coincides with Saibari's participation in the World Cup with the Moroccan national team. On Sunday he played a standout role in the match against Brazil, opening the scoring with a delightful chip. It is yet another reminder of why Bayern München were willing to pay a record sum for the versatile midfielder.
Fifth most expensive Eredivisie transfer of all time
At €55 million, Saibari writes his name into PSV's club history books — but his transfer is also historically significant in the broader Eredivisie context. He occupies fifth place on the all-time list of most expensive outgoing transfers from the Dutch top flight. Only former Ajax players rank above him: Antony left for €95 million to Manchester United, Frenkie de Jong for €86 million to FC Barcelona, Matthijs de Ligt for €85 million to Juventus, and Lisandro Martínez for €57 million, also to Manchester United.
