PSV Vrouwen make history with first ever league title after victory over ADO Den Haag
PSV Vrouwen have claimed the Dutch league title for the first time in the club's history. On Friday evening, in front of a sold-out TenCate Stadion De Herdgang in Eindhoven, they defeated ADO Den Haag 2-0, to the delight of approximately 2,500 supporters.

The atmosphere at TenCate Stadion De Herdgang had all the hallmarks of a championship decider. All 2,500 seats were taken, and flags were handed out at the entrances, raised en masse as the players made their entrance. The stands also welcomed some notable guests: PSV forward Ivan Perisic, general director Marcel Brands, and Eindhoven mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem were all present for the historic evening.
Xhemaili opens the scoring early
Championship matches are rarely known for their beauty, but PSV Vrouwen started brilliantly. After just a few minutes, Riola Xhemaili finished off a slick team move to open the scoring: 1-0. The intensity dipped somewhat after that, and clear-cut chances were limited for the remainder of the first half. Departing player Renate Jansen did briefly raise the crowd to their feet with an audacious lob attempt, but her effort went narrowly wide.
PSV remain the dominant force, Kalma seals it
After the break, PSV continued to control proceedings and a second goal felt like only a matter of time. Liz Rijsbergen tested goalkeeper Barbara Lorsheyd with a fierce shot, but she saved well. Shortly after, a header from Laura Strik flew over the bar. With fifteen minutes remaining, the outcome was finally decided. Nina Nijstad's effort was kept out by the keeper, but Fenna Kalma was ice-cool in the rebound: 2-0. That was the cue for PSV staff to open the boxes of cardboard championship plates — each bearing the number 1.
Celebrations begin, cup final on the horizon
When the final whistle blew, the party erupted in Eindhoven. Friday evening was earmarked for celebrations, and on Saturday the squad will pay a visit to mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem. Attention will then quickly shift to the next challenge: the following Saturday, PSV Vrouwen face the KNVB Beker final at Het Kasteel in Rotterdam. Their opponents are reigning league champions FC Twente. Victory would mean PSV complete the double in what has already been a historic season.
