Quinten Timber rescues a point for Feyenoord in spectacular derby against Sparta Rotterdam
Feyenoord claimed a point in the Eredivisie at Sparta Rotterdam thanks to an equaliser from Quinten Timber. The Rotterdam derby ended 1-1: Camiel Neghli put the hosts ahead before the break, before Timber levelled after the interval. Feyenoord played the final half-hour with ten men following a red card for Ramiz Zerrouki.
Neghli sends Sparta Rotterdam into the break with the lead
It remained goalless for a long time at the Sparta-stadion, but in the 34th minute Camiel Neghli broke the deadlock. Assisted by Tobias Lauritsen, he fired Sparta Rotterdam into a 1-0 lead — an advantage the hosts successfully carried into half-time.
Timber rescues Feyenoord, Zerrouki shown red
After the break, Feyenoord showed real resilience. In the 60th minute it was Quinten Timber who drew the visitors level, making it 1-1. The celebrations were short-lived for the away side, however, as just a minute later Ramiz Zerrouki was given his marching orders with a red card. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Feyenoord managed to hold on to the equaliser.
Standings and looking ahead
The draw leaves Sparta Rotterdam in tenth place in the Eredivisie, while Feyenoord sit sixth. Sparta continue their season with away fixtures against Willem II on 31 August and RKC Waalwijk on 21 September, with a home match in between on 15 September. Feyenoord face a demanding run of fixtures: on 1 September they host Ajax, before travelling to FC Groningen on 14 September and NAC Breda on 22 September.
