Rangers sign World Cup keeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City for six million pounds, Butland heads to Championship
Rangers FC are closing in on signing Croatian goalkeeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City for six million pounds. The 26-year-old World Cup keeper will replace Jack Butland, who makes the reverse move to Hull City for three million pounds. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney appears set for a 25 million pound switch to Everton.
Pandur to succeed Butland at Rangers
Rangers FC are set to unveil their fourth summer signing. The Scottish giants have reached agreement with Hull City over the transfer of goalkeeper Ivor Pandur for six million pounds. The 26-year-old Croatian is currently with his national team, the Vatreni, where he serves as backup goalkeeper behind Dominik Livakovic in the squad for the 2026 World Cup. Pandur has yet to earn an international cap but has become Hull City's first-choice keeper. At Rangers, he will take over as number one and fill the void left by Jack Butland. The English goalkeeper was among the club's highest earners, and his departure frees up financial room for manager Derek McInnes to further strengthen the squad. McInnes took charge earlier this month following Danny Röhl's departure to become head coach at Red Bull Salzburg. Pandur is Rangers' fourth summer addition, following Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCroie and Ben Godfrey.
Butland returns to Championship with Hull City
Pandur's arrival comes with a deal in the opposite direction: Jack Butland moves to Hull City for three million pounds and becomes the Croatian goalkeeper's successor at the MKM Stadium. Both transactions help each club meet their respective Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) obligations.
Hull also sell Kyle Joseph to Middlesbrough
Butland is not the only incoming transfer at Hull City designed to ease the English top-flight club's financial position. Scottish forward Kyle Joseph is set to join Middlesbrough for five million pounds. The 24-year-old played no part in the Championship play-off final in May — a contest Hull won 1-0 against the same Middlesbrough side — due to injury. Hull faced the threat of a points deduction following their return to the Premier League after breaching PSR limits by six million pounds.
Hackney heading to Everton for 25 million pounds
Middlesbrough expect to offset much of the Joseph purchase through the transfer fee arriving for Hayden Hackney. The midfielder is joining Everton for 25 million pounds after the Toffees reached agreement on his signing. Hackney attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Crystal Palace, following Middlesbrough's failed promotion push. Everton appear to have won that race. The midfielder is entering the final year of his deal at The Riverside.
