Goalless first half at Anoeta
The La Liga clash between Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano got off to a cautious start. Neither side could find the net in the opening 45 minutes at the Anoeta Stadium, sending the teams into the break level at 0-0. The visitors from Madrid, however, clearly had different plans for the second period.
Jorge de Frutos breaks the deadlock for Rayo Vallecano
The stalemate was finally broken in the 67th minute. Jorge de Frutos put Rayo Vallecano ahead, converting an assist from A. Mumin. It was a deserved reward for a stronger second-half display from the away side, who seized control of the match with the goal.
Sergio Camello doubles the lead late on
With just six minutes remaining, Rayo Vallecano put the result beyond doubt. Sergio Camello, set up by P. Ciss, made it 2-0 and appeared to have settled the contest. Real Sociedad did pull one back through Martín Zubimendi in stoppage time, but a comeback was never on the cards. The final score remained 2-1 in favour of Rayo Vallecano.
