Revierderby returns to Bundesliga: Schalke 04 hosts Borussia Dortmund on matchday twelve
After a three-year absence, the Revierderby is back in the Bundesliga. FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund will meet for the first time on matchday twelve between 4 and 6 December in Gelsenkirchen. The return fixture is scheduled for the weekend of 9 to 11 April on matchday twenty-nine. The Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) announced the exact matchdays on Monday afternoon via the 'Bundesliga City Challenge'.
Classic rivalry returns after three seasons away
The wait is finally over for FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund fans. After three years out of the spotlight, the Revierderby is back on the Bundesliga schedule. The first leg takes place on matchday twelve, sometime between 4 and 6 December, at Schalke 04's home ground in Gelsenkirchen. The return fixture follows on matchday twenty-nine, during the weekend of 9 to 11 April.
DFL reveals matchdays via 'Bundesliga City Challenge'
The announcement came on Monday afternoon as part of the 'Bundesliga City Challenge', a Deutsche Fußball Liga marketing campaign in which selected top-flight matches are gradually unveiled. Over the coming days, envelopes containing matchday information will be hidden at secret locations across various cities throughout Germany. Clues can be found via the official Bundesliga app.
More announcements to come on Thursday
The City Challenge is not over yet. On Tuesday at 15:00, the DFL will announce when and against whom Bundesliga newcomers SV Elversberg will play their home debut. Wednesday at 12:00 will reveal the opening match of the 2. Bundesliga on 7 August, including the venue. The same day at 16:00, it will also be announced when and where defending champions Bayern München will kick off the new Bundesliga season on 28 August. The complete fixture list will be presented on Thursday.
