Telstar goalkeeper Ronald Koeman jr. secured his side's Eredivisie survival in the most spectacular fashion. The 30-year-old stopper stepped up to coolly convert a late penalty against FC Volendam, sealing a 2-1 victory in the Vissersderby and guaranteeing Telstar at least one more season in the top flight.

It was a finale destined for the football history books. Telstar goalkeeper Ronald Koeman jr. strode forward moments before the final whistle to take a decisive penalty against local rivals FC Volendam. With ice-cold composure he slotted the ball home: 2-1. In doing so, Telstar not only claimed the Vissersderby bragging rights but also secured their Eredivisie survival. To top it all off, it was the first professional goal of Koeman jr.'s career.
'I'm simply number one on the list'
Afterwards, the 30-year-old goalkeeper explained how he came to be the designated penalty taker. "I'm simply number one on the list, ever since we missed two of them. I did have my doubts, but the manager told me: 'Just go for it and score.' And that's exactly what I did," said Koeman jr. His pride extended well beyond his own contribution. "This is the crowning moment of the season, with a fantastic team. We've fought like lions. Incredibly grateful. It really is a tight-knit group. That's what happens when you're successful — you grow closer together."
Koeman jr. praises Telstar team spirit
The goalkeeper also pointed to the foundations laid in previous months. "Last year's promotion already made the group stronger. We're simply a great team," said Koeman jr. "As far as I'm concerned, all this success can keep going for a while longer. At the end it was hard to see how things could still go wrong. It's incredible to experience this with Telstar."
Dream farewell for manager Anthony Correia
For manager Anthony Correia, it could not have ended more perfectly. He is leaving Telstar at the end of the season to take charge of FC Utrecht next year, and signed off with relegation survival as the ideal parting gift. "My belief in a positive outcome was strong all day. I'd been aware since morning that this was my last match. I'm over the moon to be leaving Telstar in this way. What a unique scenario. Fourteenth place, as I understand it. This is truly something special," said Correia.
