SC Cambuur seeks interim director as temporary successor to Ard de Graaf
The foundation board of SC Cambuur is looking for an interim director to temporarily succeed Ard de Graaf. The previous search for a permanent replacement, led by the supervisory board that stepped down on Saturday, yielded no results after five months. In addition, Cambuur must submit an action plan to the KNVB next Monday due to a failing grade in the Financial Rating System.
From permanent to temporary: change of course in succession process
SC Cambuur is taking a new direction in its search for a director. While the supervisory board (rvc) had spent the past five months fruitlessly searching for a permanent successor to general director Ard de Graaf, the foundation board has now deliberately opted for a temporary solution. The club's highest governing body announced this on Monday via an official statement on the club website. De Graaf, who served as general director of the Leeuwarden club for no fewer than eleven years, announced in January that he wished to step down at the end of this season.
Rvc fails to find suitable candidate and resigns
The departing rvc made every effort to secure a worthy permanent replacement. Former chairman Erik van der Waard confirmed on Saturday that the supervisory board members had spoken with 'various potential new directors,' but that these talks had come to nothing. 'Candidates for that kind of role don't grow on trees. The bar is high,' said Van der Waard. Following the resignation of the rvc members, the foundation board took the initiative and adjusted its search strategy towards an interim solution.
KNVB deadline takes top priority
For the time being, however, the search for an interim director is not the foundation board's most pressing item on the agenda. That honour belongs to a more urgent challenge: Cambuur must submit an action plan to the KNVB next Monday. The club received a poor score in the KNVB's so-called Financial Rating System, as a result of a considerable debt burden. In the mandatory action plan, Cambuur must demonstrate that the club can return to financial health within four years.
Future of rvc unclear, foundation board stays silent
The resigned members of the supervisory board have offered to remain in post temporarily until replacements are found. Whether the foundation board will take up that offer was left open in the statement. The board did acknowledge that the situation has immediate consequences for the division of responsibilities within the club: 'The departure of the Supervisory Board means that, as a foundation board, we must consider in the very short term the actions that would normally have been handled by the Supervisory Board.' The foundation board has declined to answer any further questions.
