SV Elversberg begins Bundesliga adventure with nearly complete squad: around a thousand fans welcome first-division debutant
SV Elversberg kicked off the new season with the first training session under coach Vincent Wagner, attended by approximately a thousand supporters in St. Ingbert. The Saarland club, competing in the Bundesliga for the first time this season, ran through the opening session with 25 professionals and needs to make minimal changes to the squad.
Enthusiastic welcome for Bundesliga newcomer
Around a thousand fans gathered to greet SV Elversberg at the first training session of the new season in St. Ingbert. One and a half months after the promotion of the Saarland village club, 40-year-old Vincent Wagner led his opening practice, with no fewer than 25 professionals on the pitch. "A few more will certainly arrive," Wagner said. "I'm especially pleased with what I saw today. There are far more than last year, when we started with fourteen outfield players. The training standard was genuinely good. It has to be: we have the honour of competing in the Bundesliga next season."
Two newcomers present, one still away with national youth
Of the newly signed players, Maurice Krattenmacher (20, from FC Bayern München) and Noah Darvich (19, from VfB Stuttgart) were in attendance. Francis Onyeka was absent: the Bayer Leverkusen striker, who was loaned to VfL Bochum last season, is currently competing with the German Under-19 national team at the U-19 Euros. Nicolas Kristof trained individually.
First Bundesliga opponent announced on Tuesday
On Tuesday at 3 p.m., the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) will announce who SV Elversberg's first opponent in the Bundesliga will be. The complete fixture schedule will be published on Thursday.
Minimal departures: two exits, up to four signings expected
Wagner can rely on a largely settled team. With playmaker Bambasé Conté, who returns to TSG Hoffenheim, and veteran Manuel Feil, the club has seen only two players depart. Across all three lines — defence, midfield and attack — Elversberg wants to add one player per position. "There won't be many more: two, three, maybe four," Wagner said. One name circulating as a possible option is 20-year-old Cole Campbell, recently loaned by Borussia Dortmund to Hoffenheim.
