Tottenham hunt first home win after frustrating start
Tottenham Hotspur opened their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Leicester City. Pedro Porro put the North Londoners ahead midway through the first half, but Jamie Vardy levelled with a fine header in the 57th minute. Manager Ange Postecoglou was visibly frustrated on the touchline and was candid afterwards: 'Disappointing result. Very dominant in the first half, but far too wasteful in front of goal.' The 58-year-old Australian is hoping his side will be sharper in the final third when Everton visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The statistics favour the hosts. Tottenham have scored more Premier League goals against Everton than against any other club, now reaching 102. Spurs have also won their first home league game in five of the last six seasons. New signing Dominic Solanke made his debut against Leicester without finding the net and is expected to lead the attack as Postecoglou sets his side up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. One notable absentee is Rodrigo Bentancur, who was forced off with a head injury against the Foxes and will not be available on Saturday.
Everton outclassed with ten men by Brighton, Dyche acknowledges tough challenge
Everton endured a disastrous opening day. Sean Dyche's side were beaten 3-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion at Goodison Park. They were already two goals down before the hour mark, and any hope of a comeback evaporated when Ashley Young was shown a red card in the 66th minute for a cynical foul. Young will therefore serve a suspension for the trip to Tottenham. The statistics offer Everton little encouragement. The Toffees have not won a single Premier League match in August across the past three seasons, recording zero wins, three draws and six defeats. In their last 23 top-flight meetings with Tottenham, Everton have managed just one victory, alongside eleven draws and eleven defeats. Travelling to London has rarely proved rewarding either: in their last 20 Premier League away games at London clubs, the visitors have won just three, drawing six and losing eleven. Yet Dyche refuses to accept the situation lying down. 'In the Premier League they're all big games, but this is now about responding,' said the Everton manager. 'Tottenham is a tough task; they're very strong and have invested heavily.' Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to lead the line as Dyche also deploys his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
