Trevoh Chalobah leans towards Como move, but Chelsea's asking price remains a sticking point

Como makes the strongest push
Trevoh Chalobah (26) appears to be heading for the Chelsea exit. Italian Serie A side Como, led by former Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas, has positioned itself as the frontrunner for the central defender. The two clubs are already in talks over a potential deal, though there remains a significant gap between asking price and offer.
Opening bid falls well short
Como tabled an initial offer of around twenty-seven million euros (roughly 23.3 million pounds or 31 million dollars). Chelsea has rejected the proposal outright: the London club is holding firm on an asking price of approximately forty million euros (34.5 million pounds or 45.5 million dollars). Without reaching that figure, the club has no intention of letting Chalobah leave. Negotiations remain ongoing.
Financial logic behind the transfer
For Chelsea, selling Chalobah is attractive for reasons beyond purely sporting ones. The defender came through the club's academy, meaning any transfer fee counts as pure profit on the balance sheet. From a financial standpoint—particularly given Financial Fair Play regulations—Chalobah's departure would benefit Chelsea considerably. The club has not offered him fresh terms, while his current contract runs for another two years with an option for a further season. Beyond Chalobah, Benoît Badiashile, Axel Disasi, and possibly Wesley Fofana could also become available should the right price be met.
Three reasons Chalobah is tempted by Italy
Chalobah himself finds the Como prospect attractive, and there are three concrete reasons why. First, the opportunity to work under Fàbregas holds significant appeal. Second, Como's impressive recent campaign offers a genuine chance to play Champions League football, a rare opportunity for the defender. Third, the location appeals to him: the Lombardy region in northern Italy is renowned as one of the country's finest places to live. Chalobah is currently with England at the World Cup, having been called up as a replacement for the injured Tino Livramento.
Crystal Palace and Fulham circling
Como has not entirely closed out the competition, however. Several Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on the former England international's situation. Crystal Palace has him on their radar, partly because Maxence Lacroix edges closer to a Chelsea move. Should Lacroix depart Selhurst Park, Chalobah would be seen as a serious option to fill the void. Fulham has also enquired about his availability. Nevertheless, it is Como that has acted most concretely so far, and the Chelsea academy graduate appears convinced that his future could lie in Serie A.
