Stuttgart clinch fourth place in Frankfurt
On the final matchday of the Bundesliga, VfB Stuttgart booked their place in the Champions League. The side, which includes Dutch defender Ramon Hendriks, drew 2-2 away at Eintracht Frankfurt to finish fourth in the table. That was exactly enough, as rivals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim had started the day level on points but with an inferior goal difference, meaning they needed to overhaul Stuttgart. They failed to do so.
Hoffenheim endure nightmare finale
At Borussia Mönchengladbach, things went completely off the rails for Hoffenheim. They were already 2-0 down at half-time and, shortly after the break, lost Tim Lemperle to a red card. Their hosts made the most of the advantage, running out 4-0 winners. Hoffenheim were left outside the top four, missing out on Champions League football.
FC St. Pauli and 1. FC Heidenheim relegated
At the bottom of the Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg, FC St. Pauli and 1. FC Heidenheim were all battling to avoid the drop, knowing that at least two of them would go down. FC St. Pauli faced Wolfsburg in a direct six-pointer, but the Hamburg side came off second best, losing 3-1 to the visitors. St. Pauli are relegated as a result. 1. FC Heidenheim, who needed a home win against 1. FSV Mainz 05, also fell short, losing 0-2 and returning to the 2. Bundesliga.
Wolfsburg must face play-offs to keep Bundesliga status
VfL Wolfsburg temporarily escaped the drop thanks to their win over FC St. Pauli, but the 2009 champions are not safe yet. The club must play a two-legged play-off against a side from the 2. Bundesliga to secure the final available spot in the top flight.
Bayern München sign off title-winning season in style
Bayern München, who had wrapped up the title weeks ago, gave their home fans one last reason to cheer in the final home match of the season. They beat FC Köln 5-1, with Harry Kane stealing the show by completing a hat-trick. The Englishman ends the campaign as the Bundesliga's top scorer with 36 league goals. Manager Vincent Kompany sees his side close out the season just as they have dominated it throughout.
