Ronaldo nadert historische mijlpaal

Cristiano Ronaldo has again brought Al Nassr closer to the 1000-goal milestone in his career. The Portuguese striker opened the scoring from a João Félix free-kick in the 49th minute at Al Majma'ah Sports City Stadium, converting a powerful header past Spanish goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco. With this strike, Ronaldo has now scored 982 goals across his entire professional career. His tally for the Saudi Pro League stands at five goals this season, complemented by one additional goal in the AFC Champions League Elite. Since joining Al Nassr, he has netted 134 goals for the Saudi club. If his current form holds, reaching the coveted 1000-goal mark appears feasible within the current campaign.

Ronaldo's performance comes after a turbulent period surrounding his departure from Portugal's national team setup. The striker left the team's concentration following a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus, shifting his full attention to his club commitments at Al Nassr. The 41-year-old appears fully engaged on the pitch, steering his efforts exclusively toward domestic success in Saudi Arabia while navigating the ongoing controversy surrounding his achievements and legacy.

Ronaldo is among the nominees for France Football's 'Balón de Oro van Alle Tijden' (BOAT), an award concept that differs markedly from the traditional accolade. The magazine has clarified that this is not a physical trophy nor an official award presented at its ceremony. Instead, the BOAT operates as a public voting initiative where fans pay one euro per vote with no upper limit on ballots cast. France Football describes the challenge as selecting the most outstanding individual performance among ten previous award winners across at least two occasions. The results will be announced on October 28. While positioned as a celebration of fan passion, the voting mechanism—requiring payment per ballot—has drawn criticism as a revenue-generation exercise.
