Caio Henrique officially an Ajax player: left-back signs contract until mid-2030

Ajax have officially secured their first summer signing for the first team. Caio Henrique, the Brazilian left-back from AS Monaco, has put pen to paper on a contract with the Amsterdam record champions running until mid-2030. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal. Ajax are paying ten million euros for the 28-year-old defender, a fee that can rise to fourteen million euros through bonuses.
From personal agreement to signed contract
It all moved remarkably quickly. After it emerged on Saturday afternoon that Ajax and Caio Henrique had reached a personal agreement, the Brazilian underwent a medical at the Amsterdam club that very same day. Having passed it successfully, he put pen to paper and his move to Ajax was complete. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on Saturday evening via X. Henrique has now committed himself to the club until the summer of 2030.
Ten million euros, with a salary cut
The transfer fee amounts to ten million euros, with a further four million euros in potential bonuses bringing the total to fourteen million euros. Notably, Henrique was willing to take a significant pay cut in order to make the move to Amsterdam. Head coach Michel and technical director Jordi Cruijff managed to convince the left-back over the past few days to take on the challenge in the Netherlands, despite concrete interest from clubs in England, Italy and Brazil.
211 appearances for AS Monaco, five international caps
Caio Henrique brings the curtain down on his chapter at AS Monaco after five seasons. The left-back arrived at the Monégasque club in 2020, when they signed him from Spanish side Atlético Madrid. On the Côte d'Azur he established himself as an undisputed starter, contributing three goals and 41 assists across 211 appearances. The 28-year-old defender also earned five caps for the Brazilian national team. Coach Filipe Luís did his best to keep the left-back, but ultimately could not persuade him to stay.
Marc-André ter Stegen also on Ajax's radar
Henrique remains the only summer signing for Ajax's first team so far, but the club is working on further reinforcements. Marc-André ter Stegen tops the Amsterdammers' goalkeeper shortlist. The 34-year-old German international from FC Barcelona is said to be open to a move to Ajax, and coach Michel is also enthusiastic about the goalkeeper with whom he previously worked. Given ter Stegen's substantial wages, a loan deal in which Barcelona covers part of the costs appears to be the only financially viable arrangement.
